Copper and cream gingko leaf
This card features an original linoprint of a gingko leaf, hand drawn, carved and printed by me using Cranfield traditional relief ink in gold on 260gsm Fabriano Medioevalis cream paper. The card measures 130x170mm and has deckled edges. It comes with a matching envelope and is blank inside for your own message. The card can be finished off with ribbon – in either gold or green – or have no ribbon at all.
Many of my linoprints are inspired by nature and I particularly love the ways that leaves and flowers lend themselves to the structural nature of carving lino. Also known as the maidenhair tree, the Ginkgo biloba is native to China and one of the world’s oldest living tree species.
The tree pre-dates the dinosaurs with leaf fossils found that date back more than 200 million years. I have always been fascinated by this tree and its beautiful fan-shaped leaves. Seeing a gingko with a full head of ‘hair’ is always a joyous experience and I love the way the leaves turn from gorgeous lime green to delicate yellow in autumn.
Printmaking with lino is a manual craft that requires specialist tools and inks. The nature of the process means that each card is slightly different and may feature some speckling in the ink. This is particularly true of this type of textured paper and is part of what makes this artform so beautiful. Please note there may be slight variations from the card in the photo.
I will post it in a compostable sleeve and board-backed envelope to protect it.
